REPORT OF STUDENT PARTICIPATED IN HINDI ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

Mangalore Refinery And Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) organised Hindi Essay Writing Competition on 25 August 2022 under the auspices of TOLIC, Mangaluru.

Our student Ms. Khadeejath Saniya of II FND secured 1 st place for Hindi Essay Writing Competition.

Felicitation program was held on 18 Nov 2022 in Union Bank, Pandeshwar, Mangalore at 3:30pm. The Student was accompanied by Ms. Nirmal C Bensia (Mentor- II FND), Asst. Professor, FT and FND Department.

REPORT ON INVITED TALK ORGANIZED BY NUTRITIONORA ASSOCIATION

Department of Food Technology and Food Nutrition Dietetics in collaboration with Nutritionora association organised a invited talk on “Landmarks in the Historical Development of 21st Century of Food Processing Technologies” for the students of B.Sc FT & FND at P.A. First Grade College, on 17th Nov 2022, at E- Learning Centre.  Mr. Ashok Kumar. C, Asst. Professor, Dept of P.G. Studies & Research in Food Science, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, was the Resource person.

The Resource person gave us an idea about the present scenario of Food Industries. The talk was mainly focused on the Emerging and Conventional Technologies in Food Industries.

He described about the Conventional Thermal and Non Thermal food process, High hydrostatic pressure, Non thermal plasma or cold plasma and Ultra sound technique. He also explained the historical levels, process, mechanism, applications, advantages and disadvantages of the same.

The session was informative, and was open for discussion. Few students clarified their doubts during the Q&A session.

Dr. Surfarz  J  Hasim, Principal, P.A.F.G.C, in his presidential address, admired the Resource Person and felicitated him with a momento. Ms.Delcy R D’souza , HOD of FT and FND Department, Ms. Nirmal C Bensia and Ms. Sneha, Asst. Professors , FT and FND Department (co-ordinator of the program), and other faculty members attended the talk. Ms.Faseela Hashim of III FT  hosted  the function. While, Mr. Mohammed Ameen III FT  invoked the program, Ms. Afna Mariyam of III FND welcomed the gathering, Mr. Mohammed Amaan introduced the Resource person and Ms. Kadheejath Munaza proposed the vote of thanks.

Kannada Rajyotsava Celebration

PA First Grade College celebrated Kannada Rajyothsava on 4 Nov 2022 at E-Learning Centre with great zeal. The chief guest Dr Saleemulla khan, Principal, PA College of Pharmacy addressed the gathering and stated that “kannada isn’t just a language, but the confluence of emotions”. Dr surfraz J Hasim, Principal, PA First Grade College, in his presidential address congratulated the soft hearted Kannadigas for preserving and developing kannada amidst number of hurdles.

The program coordinator Ms Sara Mashkuruneesa, Asst. Professor in Kannada addressed the students regarding the importance of cherishing the culture of Karnataka by students. Cultural heritage of Karnataka was highlighted in the song sung by the students.

The program began invoking the blessings of almighty. Ms Fathimathul Nusra welcomed the gathering while Ms Fathima propounded vote of thanks. Mr Aman compered the program. The celebrations came to a close with the National Anthem.

A talk on personal hygiene

On 4th November 2022, PAFGC organised a talk on personal hygiene by Ms. Hana Maryam (3rd FND) for first year girls in the E-learning Centre from 11:15-12:00pm. The session aimed to demonstrate the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene and illustrate the importance of comprehensive cleaning to maintain a good health and a better personality in a certain society. Personal hygiene is important for many reasons. For instance, to have a better personality, a good health, for social reasons and for psychological issues. Good hygiene perpetuates a nice image of an individual in the society. Emphasising on good personal hygiene can reduce a risk of many social, metal, and health problems.

During the friendly interaction with audience, speaker focused on the usage of sanitary napkins and their disposal, littering, and grooming which mainly contributes to personal hygiene. She also demonstrated to take responsibility of their health and cleanness in a friendly environment to remain mentally, physically and socially healthy.

All the participants present in the session were very keen to know about the basic information about personal hygiene and were excited to make use of the acquired knowledge. They promised to share the basic information about personal hygiene to young ones back at their home and in their neighbourhood to maintain a healthy society in their communities. The speaker concluded the session urging the audience to keep ourselves socially, mentally, and physically healthy. It is important to be dirt free and to maintain a hygienic life style.

“KOTI KANTA GAYANA” at PAFGC on 28/10/2022

On the eve of 67th Kannada Rajyotsava, PAFGC organised a ‘koti kanta Gayana Program’ at E- Learning Centre on 29 October 2022 at 11.00am. Faculty members along with the students celebrated the day reciting the songs suggested by the department of Kannada and Culture with a great zeal.

Mind Mapping to the teachers of Mangaluru Taluk

Dr Surfraz J Hasim, Psychologist, Mind Trainer & Coach, Principal, P A First Grade College was invited as a resource person for a one day workshop on Mind Mapping to the teachers of Mangaluru Taluk. 162 teachers of 32 institutions participated in the workshop. The program was held on 8th Oct 2022 at Barakah International School Auditorium & program was organised by Muslim Educational Institutions Federation.

Graduation Day Ceremony for the batch of 2019-22.

P. A. First Grade College celebrated the graduation ceremony for the batch of 2019-22 at PACE Auditorium, on 2 October 2022. Mr. Suyog Shetty, CEO, Niveuss Solutions,Mangalore was the Chief Guest. Mr. Abdul Latif, Mr. Mohammed Shafi, Mr. Muhammed Ameen Ibrahim, Mr. Muhammed Salman Ibrahim, Mr. Zubair Ibrahim, Mr. Bilal Ibrahim, Mr. Adil Ibrahim, Mr. Ahammed kutty, Trustees, PAET Group of Institutions, were the Guests of Honour. The celebrations started with the academic procession to the venue and the dignitaries adorned the dais. Mrs. Deepthi Udyavar, Head (Dept. of Commerce and Management) welcomed the gathering. The event was presided over by Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim, The Managing Trustee, P.A. Educational Trust (Regd.).

The Chief Guest. Mr. Suyog Shetty addressed the graduands, emphasized that the only road to success is hard work and the only thing that matters in life is  self-assurance. He elucidated that, the keys to success are ‘attitude and approach towards work, continuous learning process, being consistent, and clarity in what you are doing and why your are doing’. Mr. P. A. Zubair Ibrahim, the Guest of Honour, urged the students to have faith, to be disciplined, to have vision and passion about what they do to work with credibility. Mr. Salaman  Ibrahim, congratulated the institution, the Heads and the faculty members for producing such vibrant batch of students

Dr. Surfraz J Hasim, Principal, PAFGC administered the oath to the graduates and propounding the importance of three ‘A’s : adjust, accommodate, and adapt, he motivated them to use their degrees and knowledge for the betterment of the humanity. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Delcy R D'Souza, HoD (I/C) of FT & FND. Mr. K. Ahamed Kutty, Director (Finance), Mr. Sharfuddeen P.K., AGM, Dr. Sayyed Ameen (Dean- students affairs), Heads of various departments were present on the dais. Ms. Muneera, Asst. Professor in English and MS. Rasheeda Banu, Asst. Professor in Political Science compered the programme. The event culminated with the National Anthem,  Photo Session, and the academic procession proceeded back to the robing room. The graduation ceremony concluded with a glee that is sure to inspire the students to accomplish greater heights.

Report on Airport Visit

As a part of industrial visit, 40 students of VI Sem BBA (Aviation & Hospitality Management) along with 3 faculty members visited The Mangalore International Airport, Bajpe Road, Kenjar, on 25 July 2022 with the intention of experiencing the practical aspects of their Aviation course. After reaching the airport , Students were assisted by airport Customer Service Executive staffs who familiarised them with various departmental functions in departure terminal for domestic and International (Check in formalities, Immigration clearance for International passengers, security clearance etc.) After completing departure section visit the students were taken into arrival hall and customs clearance area, where they got information about all the functions in airport and also got clarification to query related to various procedures. At the end of the visit, photo session was held at the terminal building.

REPORT ON ORIENTATION DAY PROGRAM

Orientation Day of P.A. First Grade College for 2022-23 batch was held on 1st September 2022 at PACE Auditorium in a grand manner. PAFGC welcomed its blooming buds and their parents whole heartedly. Dr. Ramis. M. K,Principal ,PACE was the chief guest of the program. Mr. Sharfuddin P.K, AGM- Campus and Capt. Amar Mascarenhas, Director (operations) WIZ BULK were the Guests of Honour. Dr. Sayyed Ameen (Dean- Student Affairs, P.A.E.T), Mr. Mohammed Faizal N( Head-Centre for Professional and Organisation Development), Ms Nanda Devi(Asst. Manager- ISDC), and heads of various departments were present on the occasion. Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, P.A. First Grade College presided over the function.

The chief guest Dr. Ramis. M. K, addressed the gathering and elucidated the students how to update themselves with knowledge and skills to meet the requirements of a competitive world. REPORT ON FAREWELL DAY PROGRAM

P.A. First Grade College celebrated the Farewell ceremony for the batch of 2019 on 27th August 2022 at PACE Auditorium. Mr. Sharfuddin P.K, (AGM-Campus)was the Guest of Honor. Capt. Amar Mascarenhas, Director (operations) WIZ BULK, Dr. Sayyed Ameen (Dean-Student Affairs) P.A.E.T, Mr. Mohammed Faizal (Head - Center for Professional and Organisation Development), P.A.E.T, and heads of various departments were present on the dias.

Dr. Surfraz J Hasim, Principal, delivered presidential address and encouraged the students strive hard for their better future, expecting their success in each and every sphere of life. Capt. Amar Mascarenhas emphasised that the only road to success is hard work and the only thing that matters in life is self-assurance. While Dr. Sayyed Ameen explained students the dilemmas which would be a barrier to the profession and motivated the students to prepare themselves for their future endeavors. The farewell function was further addressed by Mr. Mohammed Faizal. He propounded the ways to update our self with knowledge and skill, to meet the requirement of the competitive world.

The various departmental heads and staffs shared their opinion and the best outgoing students expressed their gratitude towards their beloved teachers. Towards the end of the program teachers cherished the students with a beautiful farewell song and the students were given mug as a token of love. Certificates of appreciation were given to the volunteers of cultural fest “AZKENA 22”.

Innovative Methodology Award to Dr Surfraz J Hasim

Dr Surfaz J Hasim, Renowned Mind Trainer & Coach, Principal- P.A. First Grade College was awarded on the occasion of Teachers Day under “Innovative Methodology” category by Wisdom Ed. & Abhijnya Education Pvt Ltd. during the AWE award Ceremony held at Ocean Pearl, Mangalore on 5 Sept 2022

A Report on Malaria and Dengue awareness Campaign

With a view to combat the dangerous and deadly disease- malaria and dengue, PAFGC-NSS unit arranged a malaria and dengue awareness campaign on 26 August 2022 at 3pm.

The most effective way to get rid of malaria and dengue is spreading mass awareness. NSS volunteers,programme officer and core committee members voluntarily participated in the awareness campaign. All joined the arms against the fear of malaria and dengue.The NSS volunteers gave awareness message to the people of the adjoining area and distributed pamphlets bearing preventive measures to tackle the disease. The volunteers spread the message “We can conquer against malaria and dengue” went door to door.

The pamphlets were about the deadly disease malaria and dengue,how it spreads, its preventive measures, and how to avoid the threat of malaria and dengue etc. The NSS volunteers asserted that people must be aware of mosquito-breeding area and also urged the people to make sure that there is no water stagnation in the surrounding.

Thus, the campaign aimed at preventing water stagnation and removing mosquito-breeding grounds. It encouraged the people to fight against the deadly diseases and provided a platform to the NSS volunteers to exhibit their selfless service.

REPORT ON SADHBAVANA DIWAS

IQAC in association with NSS unit of P.A First Grade College observed Sadbhavana Diwas on 18th august 2022 at 10:00 am in the Edusat Hall.

With the outset of current situation and importance of conducting awareness program about the national integration and communal harmony to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Shri. Rajiv Gandhi, the day is observed to encourage national integration, peace, affection, and communal harmony among the Indian people of all religions. Sadbhavana in English language means “goodwill”. Every year on August 20th Sadbhavana Diwas is being observed to commemorate the memory of our late erstwhile Prime Minister, Shri. Rajiv Gandhi. Being the youngest Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi's thought process was modern and different from others. Shri. Rajiv Gandhi had the vision of a developed nation via many national as well as international projects that he pioneered. The main theme of Sadbhavana Diwas is to promote national integration and communal harmony among people of all religions and languages.

Dr. Palakshappa. K, Head-Dept. of Civil Engineering, PACE was the chief guest of the day. Dr Surfraz J Hasim, Principal, P.A First Grade College presided over the program. Mr. Mohammed Faisal, Head- Center for Professional and Organization Development was the guest of honour. IQAC Coordinator Ms.Vanishree along with the Head of various departments and other faculty members were present during the program.

Dr, Palakshappa, the Chief Guest of the program addressed the gathering and advised to inculcate the values of national integrity, patriotism and relinquish the cast, creed, religion and regional discrepancies. Thereafter, Ms. Rasheeda Banu, Assistant Professor (Dept. of HSS) administered sdhbavana oath.

Mr. Hamad Basheer, Assistant Professor (Dept. of Commerce and Management) welcomed the gathering while Ms. Jaseera Jannath (NSS Sub-coordinator) proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Muneera, Assistant Professor in English compered the program.

Sadbhavana Diwas is celebrated across the nation with great zeal and enthusiasm. On this day a pledge is also taken by the people across the country, which is as:

“I take this solemn pledge that I will work for the emotional oneness and harmony of all the people of India regardless of caste, region, religion or language. I further pledge that I shall resolve all differences among us through dialogue and constitutional means without resorting to violence.”

Report on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

IQAC & NSS Unit of PAFGC organized Partition Horrors Remembrance Day jointly with P.A. Institute of Physiotherapy on 14 th August,2022 at PACE campus with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour.

Dr.K.P.Soofie, Principal P.A Polytechnic College, the Guest of Honour,addressed and said that Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is a National Memorial Day in India on 14 th August that commemorates the victims and sufferings of people during the partition of India. He also added that it remembers the sacrifice of many Indians during the partition.

Mr.Rudresh,Formar Honorary Captain, Guest of Honour,advised the students that people need to help each other without discrimination ,further he motivated the students by sharing his Army life experience .

Prof.Ismail Khan ,Vice-Principal,PAPT, Dr.Surfraz J Hasim Principal PAFGC, Dr.Sajeesh Reghunathan, Principal P.A Institute Of Physiotherapy, Mr.Faizal Head-Centre for Professional & Organizational Development were present on the occasion.

FOOD FEST, DIETETIC 3.0 -" NUTRITION WITH TECHNOLOGY" at PAFGC

The Department of Food Nutrition & Dietetics, and Food Technology, organized a Food Fest, Dietetic 3.0- "Nutrition with Technology" on 2nd August 2022. The entire program was divided into two  sessions : morning and afternoon session

The program began at 10.30 am with an undying tradition of seeking almighty’s blessing. The Chief Guest was Ms. Komal S. Prabhu, Women Entrepreneur and Chief Operating Officer of Maharaja Group, Mangalore. She inspired many young minds through her words of wisdom towards entrepreneurship in food sectors and has invoked depth on contributing to the society welfare. Post that, inauguration of the stalls was done. There were 36 stalls in total. Stalls were put up even by outsiders and students of the sister institutions. Ms. Jesna Vijayan, Asst.Professor, Department of FT & FND welcomed the gathering. Ms. Khadeejath Rahamathulla, 2nd year FT student proposed vote of thanks.

The chief guest paid a visit to every stall and appreciated their effort for putting up the stalls for the day. The inaugural function got over by 11.30 AM. Inter collegiate competitions such as jump start, rivalry, me leng frutos, quizzify, eccentric explorers, high strung were added colour to the fest. The Valedictory function began invoking the blessings of almighty by Mr. Mohammed Amaan and Ms. Hala (2nd FT) at 3:30pm. We were glad to have two alumni of PAFGC as the Chief Guest- Mr. Ahmed Shakeeb (CEO, The New Indian School, Umm-Al-Quwain, and Regional Director, GCC & India-ICMA, Australia) and Mr. Abdulla Fawaz (CEO, World Shore Technology, and MD, Go World Travel and Tours, Kerala). They were extremely happy to be a part of the food fest as they refreshed their memories and emphasized the significance of conducting such a wonderful programme. Mr. Mohammed Faizal (Head- Centre for Professional and Organization Development, PAET), Dr.Sayyed Ameen (Dean- Student Affairs & Director, Centre for Management Studies and Research, PACE), and Mr. Sharfuddhin P.K, AGM (Campus), PAET were present. IT Association,

The Department of Computer Applications in association with IT association, P.A First Grade College, Nadupadavu, Mangaluru conducted an invited talk on " COMPUTER VISION FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS" by Dr. Sharmila Kumari M, Professor & Head, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering and Vice Principal, P.A. College of Engineering, Mangaluru on 28 July 2022. Dr.Sharmila Kumari M, elucidated the difference between Human Vision and Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning with real world examples. She insisted students to do research to get recognised in this growing technological world. She notified the students avout thesky-scraping job opportunities in the IT sector. She concluded the session quoting Mr. Albert Einstein’s words, “The True sign of intelligence is not knowledge, but imagination”.

The program began invoking the blessings of almighty by Mr. Mohammed Hashir ( 1st B.Com). Ms.Chaitra, HOD( Dept. of Computer Applications) felicitated Dr.Sharmila Kumari M, with a token of appreciation and encouraged the students to enter into the IT sector. Report on Annual Day celebration

PA First Grade College celebrated it’s annual day on 4 August 2022 at PACE auditorium. The program began by invoking the blessings of almighty by Mr. Ishaan sheik(1st BBA) and Mr. Mohammed Hashir(1st B.Com). The chief Guest for the event was Dr.Jayakrishnan AG, Director and Chief Cardiothoracic surgeon, Omega Hospital, Manglore. Mr. sharafuddin P K(AGM,PAET) was the guest of honour. Dr. Sayyed Ameen(Dean-students affairs), Dr. Rameez(Principal, PACE), Dr. Saleeemulla khan (Principal, PA College of Pharmacy),, and Mr. Mohammed Faizal(Head-CPOD) were present on the dias.

The gathering was welcomed by Ms. Ibthisaanbaanu, HoD(Dept. of FT& FND). Post that, Dr. Surfraz J Hasim presented the Annual Report of the year 2021-22.

The chief Guest Dr. Jayakrishnan AG encouraged the students to strive hard, broaden their horizon and set goals to reach greater heights. He also propounded the importance of healthy food habit.

Best outgoing student, Students who had excelled in the University Examinations, cultural, sports and overall involvement in college activities were felicitated at the Award ceremony. Mr. Asif Abdulla Abdul Khader(3rd B.Com), Mr. Mohammed Muhasin OK(3rd BBA), Ms. Amina Sahar(3rd FND), and Ms. Lakshmi Priya V P(3rd FT) were identified as the Best outgoing students.

Individual sport championship bagged by Ms. Snehapraba(3rd FT)& Mr. Abdulla T(3rd BBA). Overall championship crowned to Blue house. The meticulous planning and coordination of team made the entire program a grand success. The formal function concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Vanishree, IQAC coordinator. Ms. Muneera.A and Ms. Rasheeda Banu ( Asst. Professors, Dept. of HSS) compered the program.

NSS unit: “Awareness on Malaria and Dengue”

N.S.S unit along with Youth Red Cross of PAFGC organized an Invited Talk on “Awareness on Malaria and Dengue” for the N.S.S volunteers at Multipurpose Hall on 28th July 2022.

Dr. Sajeesh Reghunathan, Principal, P.A Institute of Physiotherapy was the resource person.

The resource person explained in detail the various causes and consequences of Malaria and Dengue. These two are the common mosquito infections that are very dangerous and cause high morbidity and mortality around the world. He added that mosquito should be considered as an important animal vector that can cause several diseases.

In general, Malaria is a protozoa infectious. The main mosquito vector is ‘Anopheles’. Whereas, dengue  is a viral infection. The main mosquito vector is ’Aedes’. Both can cause acute febrile illness. While illustrating the diagnosing methods of Malaria and Dengue, he elucidated that these are not infectious diseases. When it comes to controlling the disease, patient need to consult a doctor when the body temperature increases at a higher rate. He further insisted the students to use mosquito bed nets, wear clothes that cover most of the body and use insect repellent on exposed skin as precautionary method.

Chief guest Mr. Dikshith Rai, Founder and CEO, CodeCraft Tecnologies Pvt. Ltd. Mangalore, inaugurated the fest and delivered a remarkable address. Q & A session with the chief guest proven fruitful in clearing their doubts and boosted their future plans to be the entrepreneurs. Principal Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim presided over the programme and appreciated the organizers for their efforts and conveyed best wishes to the participants. As the undying tradition, fest began with invoking the blessings of almighty by Mr. Faris Hamsa and Mr. Nauman of 3 rd BBA. Ms. Ramyashree, Asst. The quiz competition was held at the Edu-Sat Hall. The preliminary rounds of the marketing game, financial game, and treasure hunt took place in the campus. Invited talk on Language and Culture.

The Literary Association of P A First Grade College organised an invited talk on ‘' Language and Culture' on 21 July 2022, at PACE Multipurpose Hall. Ms. Suhana Sayyed. M, professional content writer, IELTS trainer, author and lecturer of Barakha PU college, Adayar Kannur was the resource person. Her thought provoking words propounded the inter connection between language and culture. The interactive session overwhelmed the students and encouraged them to actively take part in it. Visit to DK Milk Union Ltd Nandini Diary.

A fruitful interaction with Mr D Ashok, Managing Director, D.K. Milk Union Ltd, Nandini Mangaluru Diary, KMF was held on 16 July 2022. The meeting has opened up an opportunity for Food Technology students of PAFGC & Biotechnology students of PACE to carry out internship at the diary. The officials of the diary explained the complete processes involved in pasteurisation of milk and preparation of other milk products, packaging, etc. in the diary. Dr Surfraz J Hasim, Principal, P.A. First Grade College, Mr Faizal, Head-Centre for Professional & Organisational Development, PAET and Dr. Krishnaprasad N, Head, Dept. of Biotechnology, P.A. College of Engineering were present in the delegation.

Report on Industrial visit to Hotel Ocean Pearl, Mangalore.

A team of 10 students of P.A First Grade College, Nadupadavu, with Mrs. Deepti Udyavar, HoD Commerce visited Hotel Ocean Pearl, kodialbail on 23 rd June 2022 at 3:00 pm.

The team was welcomed by Ms. Sulochana , HR Ocean Pearl. The Guide Mr. Kapil explained the students the process from the receiving area till the delivery of food to the various customers. We visited the stores, kitchen, flight Kitchen, the laundry, the conference and function halls, the café, hotels, buffet area, the rooms, spa and gym area. He also gave the information on entry and exit of the employees. Totally it was a good experience for the students to know the overall functioning of the Hotel.

Public Speaking Club Inaugurated at PAFGC

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of PAFGC in association with Literary Association inaugurated ‘Public Speaking Club’ on 27 June 2022 at PACE Multipurpose Hall. Dr. AM Khan, Professor & Chairman, Department of Electronics & Former Registrar, Mangalore University was the Chief Guest. He addressed the gathering and delineated the art of Public Speaking and how one can master over it. Guest of Honour Mr. Mohammed Faizal, Head- Center for Professional and Organisational Development acquainted the students with his thoughtful words and emphasised the worth of being a member of the club. He urged them to actively participate and develop their horizons and communication skills. Antidrug Awareness Program at PAFGC

The NSS Unit of P.A  First Grade College organised a drug awareness program on 25 th June 2022, 2 pm at the Multipurpose Hall to the young minds.

Mr. Mallikarjun, Sub Inspector of Konaje Police Station  addressing the students explained with examples how the consumption of drugs destroy the life of youth. Also, he mentioned that the drugs are illegal items which some people smoke, inject, eat or drink for the pseudo mental and physical enjoyment which creates an habit leading to a menace. He emphasised the consequences of drug abuse and also the punishment for illegal drug peddling as per the law. He appealed to the students to come forward and inform the Police in case they find any anti-social activities in their localities.

INVITED TALK ON “LOGISTICS IN THE MODERN WORLD”

Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Commerce and Management association of PAFGC organised a Invited Talk on “Logistics in the Modern World” for the Logistics students of BBA and B.Com at Multipurpose Hall, on 27 June 2022. Mr. Kwaja Raziuddin, Director- Purchase, India, middle East and Africa, Proctor & Gamble Beauty was the Resource Person.

The session covered clear details related to logistics in the modern era. Resource person emphasised the topic by demonstrating the fact that during pandemic situation, how the Logistic Industries reached the boom.  He also explained the possibility of automation in the future and said that in the new normal, Logistics will still play a key role in recovering the world from a time of planetary economic collapse. The resource person also highlighted the future of supply chain industry and the gaining popularity of E-commerce in the global scenario.

ARUNA MASALA INDUSTRIAL VISIT

The Industrial visit was planned for third year Food Technology students on 25 th June 2022 to Aruna Masala Industry residing in Padubidri.

Students were exposed to the packaging section of the industry were the Unit Manager helped the students in gaining the knowledge about the spices, raw material inception processing sources, packaging and dispatch in all the different quantities which was carried out using the multi form fill sealing machine.

The students have gained ample ideas and techniques on various ways of packaging, dispatching of the commodities and also in exporting of the spices to different parts of the world

The industry was packaging spices like pepper, chili powder, sambar masala, chicken fry masala, fish fry masala etc..And was exporting to areas like Australia and Middle East

Overall, students had a great industrial exposure with bringing back knowledge in the industrial scale.

Report on Industrial Visit to “The Hotel Avatar and Convention

Industrial visit helps students to identify how hotel operations work. Many students have their own opinion regarding the impact and importance of the industrial visit to the hotel. A selected group of 18 students of PAFGC along with Mr. Hamad Basheer (Assistant Professor, Department of commerce and Management) visited ‘The Avatar Hotel and Convention’ on 22 June 2022.

On arrival, students were warmly welcomed by Mr. Nilesh Annu Nayak, Complex Guest Experience Manager with welcome drinks. At the outset, Human Resource Manager Ms. Nivedita elucidated the career prospects in Hotel Avatar and how the students after completion of their course start their career as a Management Trainee.

There was an informative discussion about the entire process from the receiving area till the delivery of food to the various customers by Mr. Deepak Pradeep (Complex Manager, Food & Beverage Service). Subsequently, there was an interactive session for students with Mr. Prashanth Rao Aroor, Executive Director. Students visited the stores, kitchen, the laundry, conference Hall, Cafe, Hotel, Buffet area, The room, Spa, and Gym area.

The Hotel organized the brunch for students in their restaurant “cafe”. This was a great experience for the students and a wonderful learning about the systems followed in hotels.

Interview Training session at PAFGC

Interviews provide us an opportunity to build a personal rapport while having a professional conversation. Cracking an interview and getting selected for the job position is considered to be a challenging task. Having a right skillset for the respective job designation is a major concern. Considering this, Dept. of Training and Placements of PAFGC in association with CPOD (Centre for Organizational & Professional Development) organized a training session on "Interview Preparation" on 16 & 17 June 2021 at Edusat Hall to help the students to get prepared for the Campus Placement Drive going to be held on 21st June by (24)7.ai.

All the participants were welcomed by Ms. Rasheeda (Assistant professor in Political Science ).  Mr.  Mohammad Faizal, (Head-CPOD) was invited as the keynote speaker. He has a corporate experience of more than 20 years and has gained excellent skills in preparing students for campus recruitment. He talked on various aspects of interview process and the type of questions that are normally asked in the interviews. He gave deep insights of mistakes which candidates commit while attending interviews and described about overcoming from those mistakes.

He expounded how to answer very effectively of certain questions like,

  • Why should we hire you?
  • Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • When can you join if selected?
  • How much salary do you expect?
  • What do you know about our company? and many more…

Ms. Muneera (Assistant Professor in English) demonstrated all the scenarios of Interview Environment. She also elaborated the ways of explaining and justifying the answers of various questions. Students were helped to give effective self-introduction. Versant Test training proved beneficial to the aspirants and helped them to gain confidence to face the same during interview. Students actively took part in the Q&A session held at the end. Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim (Principal, PAFGC) imparted practical knowledge with lots of real life examples. Students expressed their gratitude when the PPT illustrating the same was shared to them.

The session covered in detail - discussion about Right Mindset to prepare for Interview, Overall approach just before interview, Facing Job interview comfortably, understanding what is that interviewer is looking for , What to do (and not do) during interview, Body language tips, Interview Olestions - how to tace them technically and how to tace them in HR/Behavioral Questions.

Finally Ms. Gopika (Assistant Professor in English) concluded the session by motivating everyone to stay calm and positive during the interview process.

Story Portrayal Competition

A wise man once said, "After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world." It is the stories that give wings to our imagination and take us to places beyond the boundaries of our physical world and into the land of fairies, dragons and wishing trees. It is in our imagination that we embrace things and situations that we shy away from real world.

Since time immemorial, story telling has been an integral part of our childhood. To keep the tradition going and to incite curiosity and the love for reading in children, Literary Association of PAFGC organised a story telling competition on 17 June 2022. The young, enthusiastic storytellers armed with their props came forth with wonderful tales.

While some stories gave the audience food for thought and some reinforced moral values. The stories were adjudged on the basis of expression,confidence and presentation skills of the students. It made the judgment quite a difficult task for the judges Ms. Najla, Ms. Gopika and Ms. Rasheeda (Assistant professors, Department of Humanities & Social Sciences). Literary Association Cordinators Hana Maryam, Ayesha Fida and Rukaya Rushda were the coordinators of the competition.The event was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.

A REPORT ON ONE DAY INDUSTRIAL VISIT

Sixth semester students of B.Com, BSc (FND) and BBA, along with Ms. Ramyashree & Ms. Ithashree (Assistant Professors in Commerce & Management) visited Deccan Plast Industries, Baikampady, Mangalore on 16 th June 2022

This visit was mainly focused to help the students to understand the production process of plastic products, the technology and the equipment used. Students were addressed by employees and explained about the facilities available inside the factory, their methods of production, the equipments and raw materials used for the production of plastic chairs, tables, trays etc. They also explained about the maintenance of the machinery, and time required for production. The students were boosted by the interaction with the Manager where he shared some more details about the factory, its workforces and timings.

Q&A session with the Manger proved fruitful.

Mock Interview Drive at PAFGC:

PAFGC in collaboration with Express (India) ventures & Sadhana Academy, Mangalore, held a mock placement drive on 10 June 2022. Aptitude Test for The students who have registered for the Mock Placement Drive were given a aptitude test at E-Learning Centre (Edusat Hall) at 9am. Students were allowed to use note book for rough work and test was given ONLINE using smart phones.

Candidates who qualify in the Aptitude test were eligible for Group Discussions and who clear the GD were called for Personal Interview. 17 students were qualified for personal interview. Candidates were directed to come properly groomed. As instructed earlier all students appeared for mock interview carrying Application for the post applied, CV and duly filled Student Diary as a mandatory requirement for the Aptitude Test.

The interview panel consisted Dr. Surfraz J.Hasim (Principal, PAFGC), Mr. Mohammed Faizal,(Head-CPOD) and Capt. Amar Marcararenhas.

They assessed the technical and communicative competence of the students. Practice interview is an excellent approach to prepare for actual job interview. It familiarises the aspirants with interview process and helps to develop interview strategies, improve communication skills, and reduces the stress. Mock interview drive is treated as a part of placement related training and continuous assessment of the students during the course.

TRAINING SESSION ON “PERSONL HYGEINE”

The Department of Food Nutrition & Dietetics, and Food Technology in collaboration with Science association organized a training session on  “Personal Hygeine” for the students of B.Sc FT, at P.A First Grade College, on 07 June 2022, at Multipurpose Hall. Mr. Abbas Uchil, former Sales & Marketing Manager,Ecolab, K.S.A was the Resource Person.

The session accentuated Personal Hygiene in food processing industries and in domestic sectors.The Resource Person exemplified the importance of maintaining personal hygiene to the self first and then the surrounding. He also articulated that in reality hygiene is not practiced in various restaurants, street foods, etc.. which could accumulate the growth of various pathogens, bacteria  in food that is served to the customers which could have tremendous health impact on them. He then encouraged the need to make a note of minute details on personal hygiene to minimise the impact on health issues. He also insisted the students to visit near by hotels and educate the staff regarding the importance of having clean and Hygeine kitchen to serve the food to the customers.

PAFGC ANNUAL SPORTS MEET 2022

The annual sports day of PAFGC was held on 31 st May and 1 st June 2022 at PACE grounds with great zeal. The sports day involved a huge participation of students from different departments. It was a day filled with fervours and excitement experienced amidst thrills, stills and cheers.

The inaugural ceremony began with formal procedure seeking the blessing of almighty by Mr.Saeed Mahroof and Abdul Basith of II B.com.

Mr. Donnet D’souza, Retired Physical Director, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore, the Chief Cuest of the day in his inaugural oration, stimulated the participants on the benefits of sports in maintaining balanced health and fitness. He urged students to participate in sports with sincerity. Dr. Surfraz J Hasim, Principal, PAFGC in his address stated that sports day is a hands on learning experience to prepare the students for competitive life. Dean (Students Affairs), PAET, Dr.Sayyed Ameen, Prof. K.P. Soofi, Principal, PAPT, Dr. Saleemulla Khan, Principal, P.A. College of Pharmacy, Dr. Sajesh Ragunathan, Principal, P.A. In two days sports event

the long awaited athletic event were held with great zeal. Students participated enthusiastically in all of the events. Team work is the fuel that allows common people to produce uncommon results. As testimony to this, four houses (Green, Blue, Red & Yellow) ardently took part in football, cricket, volleyball and throw ball. The event came to an end successfully with prize distribution leaving thrilling memories in the hearts of each and everyone present.

"P.A First Grade College conducts Awareness programme on World No-Tobacco Day  

P.A First Grade College, Nadupadavu, Mangaluru as a gesture of kindness and encouragement to the society, the NSS and Youth Red Cross Unit conducted an Awareness Programme  on World No- Tobacco Day on 31 May 2022. The program started with a prayer invoking blessings of the almighty. As to begin with, In 1987, the World Health Assembly passed a resolution calling for the celebration of World No Tobacco Day every year on 31 May. This yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco, the business practices of tobacco companies, what WHO is doing to fight the tobacco epidemic, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations.

World No-Tobacco Day marks the importance towards capturing the Global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the unnecessary death and disease it brings. According to the official website of the WHO, the harmful impact of the tobacco industry on the environment is vast and growing, adding unnecessary pressure to our planet’s already scarce resources and fragile  ecosystem.  

It further states that tobacco kills over eight million people every year and destroys our environment, further harming human health, through the cultivation, production, distribution, consumption, and post-consumer waste.    

Consequently to protect the environment and to help people who are committed in quitting the tobacco, an informative session was delivered to students by Dr. Surfraz J Hasim, Principal, P.A First Grade College to the students and all the faculties present. Honorable Chief Guest of the day  Mr. Donnet D’Souza, Retired Physical Director, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Manglore in his oration demystified the importance of  evacuating the tobacco and it’s harmful effects on human life and nature. Students were given  placards with a slogan on relinquish tobacco and to have a healthy life, with respect to the day entire students and faculty members took oath on quitting tobacco and  help those in the rehabilitation process of quitting it .

"Academic Research; Need & Priority"- A Faculty Development Program at PAFGC

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of PAFGC organized a faculty development program on 14th May 2022 at PACE Multipurpose Hall. The program focused on easy approach towards publishing research papers.

Dr. Suresh Poojary, Associate professor, Department of Commerce & Dean - Research and Innovation, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore addressed the gathering and expounded what is research, research process, research methodology to be followed and  significance of academic research. 

The session brought forth the significance of academic research and how it can contribute to a person's individual and social growth.  He acquainted the gathering with his vast knowledge and urged them to contribute to their chosen field emphasizing the fact ‘A teacher is a lifelong learner’. Principal Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim delivered the presidential address and motivated the faculty members proclaiming complete support to carry out research. The FDP began invoking the blessing of almighty by I year B.Com student Mr. Mohammad Hashir. Dr.Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, PAFGC honoured the guest with a memento. Lead & Think; Creating Visionary Teachers for Tomorrow” - A Faculty Development Program at PAFGC.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of PAFGC organized ‘Lead & Think; Creating Visionary Teachers for Tomorrow’- A Faculty Development programme on 13 May 2022 at PACE Multipurpose Hall. The program focused on understanding the various behavioural aspects of learners and lead accordingly in a learning environment with more focus and diligence.

Mr.Mohammed Faizal, Head-CPOD (Centre for Professional & Organisational Development), PAET Institutions, addressed the gathering and demystified the challenges faced by the faculty members. The programme provided an opportunity to acquire knowledge about current developments in relevant field.  

The sessions were properly planned which succeeded in maintaining the participants engaged throughout. Indirect approach to inculcate the good qualities of their favourite teachers through an interactive session proved fruitful.   

Importance of positive work relationships, effective teamwork, improved morale and necessity of increasing the productivity and work satisfactions were explicated through practical sessions. The FDP succeeded in promoting not only the professional practices relevant to education but also in motivating the faculty members to achieve competitive teaching and learning environment. The structured process of brainstorming and information exchange provided a long way in inspiring the participants to strive hard and achieve more.  

The FDP began invoking the blessing of almighty by 1st year BBA Student, Mr Mohammad Ashik.

Dr. Surfraz J Hasim, Principal, PAFGC delivered the Presidential address. The IQAC Coordinator Ms Vanishree Y was present on the dias. Ms Muneera, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English welcomed the gathering & compered the program, Ms Gopika, Asst. Professor, Dept. of English introduced the resource person & Ms Jaseera Jannath, Asst. Professor, Commerce & Management proposed the vote of thanks.

Environmental Cell Project - ' A drop for a life’

Environmental cell of P.A. First Grade College initiated a new project "a drop for a life", on 27 April 2022. In this project, the staff and student coordinators tied few pots on the trees in which the water was poured for the birds to fulfil their thirst.

The project was inaugurated by the Principal of PAFGC Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim by pouring water into the pot. The aim of the project is to lend a helping hand towards the lives of many birds by fulfilling their thirst.

Dr.Surfraz J Hasim, Principal, PAFGC inaugurated the project and appreciated the environmental cell members for taking such a great initiative. Mr.Ismail Khan, Vice Principal, P.A. Polytechnic addressed the gathering with his notable words supporting the lives of birds. Dr.Sayyed Ameen, Dean (Student Affairs), P.A. Educational Trust Institutions shared his support and encouragement to environmental cell activities. Capt. Rudresh , Campus Supervisor, expressed his view to the noble cause and wished the students a great success ahead. Ms .Najla Mariyam, Staff coordinator Environmental cell, highlighted the importance of the project.

Ms. Fathimath Thabsheera, 1st year B.Sc delivered a short speech on the importance of water for birds especially during summer. Ms. Fathima Thidhil was the master of ceremony. INVITED TALK: SIXTH SENSE TECHNOLOGY; A CONCEPT V/S REALITY

Information Technology Association at P.A. First Grade College conducted an invited talk on “Sixth Sense Technology; a Concept v/s Reality" by Mr. P. Sridhara Acharya, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Application, Institute of Computer Science and Information Science, Srinivas University, Mangaluru, for the students of BCA, on 17 March 2022, at Multipurpose Hall. Ms.Fathima L, I BCA, welcomed the gathering and Ms.Mariyam Swaliha, II BCA introduced the Resource Person to the gathering.

P.Sridhara Acharya, acquainted the students to Artificial Intelligence, and augmented reality and Virtual Reality with real world examples. He insisted students to develop critical thinking skills to get recognized in this booming Information Technology. He elucidated the concept, components and applications of Sixth Sense technology.

Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, P.A F.G.C., in his presidential address, encouraged the students to be passionate enough to create their niche in the IT sector, as Information Technology is the buzz word today and there is no dearth of jobs and opportunities. He then felicitated P.Sridhara Acharya, with a memento as a token of appreciation. Ms.Chaitra, HoD of Computer Application, and other faculty members were also present. Ms. Mariyam Swaliha, II BCA, was the Master of Ceremony and Ms. Shamla, II BCA, proposed the vote of thanks.   

INVITED TALK- “FOOD IS MEDICINE: WE ARE WHAT WE EAT”

The Department of Food Nutrition & Dietetics, and Food Technology at P.A First Grade College, organized an invited talk on “Food is Medicine: We are What we Eat” for the students of FT & FND, on 16 March 2022, at E-Learning Centre. Dr. Adarsha Gowda, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Food Science, Loyola Center for Research and Innovation, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangalore, was the Resource Person.

Ms. Amina Farha, III FND, welcomed the gathering and Ms. Ayshathul Afna, II FND, introduced the Resource Person. The session accentuated food as medicine and the significance of diet in maintaing health and preventing diseases. The Resource Person exemplified the importance of traditional methods of food habits and how it seemed to fade as modern medicine and technologies developed. He also articulated the reality of shifting from natural remedies and relying on a diet of processed, fatty and sugar- laden food, increasing the rate of diseases significantly. He then deliberated on the need to encourage good eating habits to create a solid foundation for good heath. 

Dr.Surfraz J Hasim, Principal, P.A F.G.C., in his presidential address, lauded the Resource Person and felicitated him with a token of appreciation. Ms.Murial Misquith, HoD- Science, Ms. Spoorthi V.S., Program Coordinator, faculty members were also present. CULTURAL DAY CELEBRATION

P.A. First Grade College celebrated Cultural Day on 28 February 2022, in the college auditorium in a befitting manner. The program started with a prayer invoking blessings of the almighty. Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, P.A.F.G.C., presided over the function and persuaded the students to explore their adroitness and emboldened them to take part in all the impending events. Dr. U.T. Ifthikar Ali, Physiotherapist, Entrepreneur, and Syndicate Member of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, embellished the celebration with his valuable presence. The programme bestowed students with not only the cultural exposure, but also the essence of dynamic team work, leadership qualities, coordination, and organisational skills to face up the real life challenges ahead of them.

NUIZENS - LOGO RELEASE

The final year batches of P.A.F.G.C., released their logo “NUIZENS - One for all, all for one” on 25 February 2022. Ms. Esha P., III BBA, welcomed the gathering. Mr. Ahmed Kutty, Finance Officer, P.A.E.T. Group of Institutions, unveiled the logo. Dr. Surfraz. J. Hasim, Principal P.A.F.G.C., addressed the students and admonished them to not let a setback pull them down too low, but rather, to take it for what it is, and to create a plan to move forward by beginning to execute that plan. INVITED TALK ON LEGAL RIGHTS FOR WOMEN

Internal Complaints Committee at P.A First Grade College, in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell organized an invited talk on ‘Legal Rights for Women’ for the female students of the college on 3 March 2022. Advocate Aruna B P, a renowned advocate from Mangalore was the resource person.

The program started with a prayer seeking the blessings of almighty. Ms. Vanishree Y, Chairperson, ICC, welcomed and introduced the resource person to the gathering. The resource person elucidated the students, the constitutional rights of women with regard to matrimony, domestic violence, claim of maintenance in case of divorce, and women’s right under Labour Laws. She also broached on the subject of Sexual Harassment at work place, dowry harassment, rape, etc., and the constitutional rights of women against these cases. She also gave an insight on the POCSO Act, Right to Zero FIR, filing an RTI application under Right to Information Act and explicated the benefits of National Commission for Women.

The program was presided over by Dr. Surfraz J Hasim, Principal P.A.F.G.C. The members of ICC, HoDs of various departments and other faculty members were also present. Ms. Zainab Rida, III FT was the Master of Ceremony and Ms. Fathimath Mashmoona, I BBA, proposed the vote of thanks..

MOU was signed between P.A First Grade College and ICAR- Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kudlu, Kasaragod, Kerala in 24/02/2022.

GRADUATION DAY

P.A.First Grade College celebrated the graduation ceremony for the batch of 2018 at PACE Auditorium, on 26 February 2022. Mr. Atheeq L.K.,Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Dept., Government of Karnataka, was the Chief Guest. Mr.P. A.Zubair Ibrahim, Trustee, P.A.E.T.Group of Institutions,was the Guest of Honour. The celebrations started with the academic procession to the venue and the dignitaries adorned the dais. Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, P.A.F.G.C.,welcomed the gathering.The event was presided over by Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim, Chairman and Managing Trustee, P.A.E.T. Group of Institutions.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Atheeq L.K., addressing the graduands, emphasized that the only road to success was hard work and the only thing that matters in life was the self assurance. Mr.P.A. Zubair Ibrahim, the Guest of Honour,urged the students to work with credibility. Mr. Abdulla Ibrahim, congratulated the institution, the Heads and the faculty members for producing such vibrant batch of students. Dr. Sayyed Ameen, Dean, Student Affairs, announced the names of the best student and the academic achievers.

The graduates, led by Prof. K.P. Soofie, Principal,PAPT, took a pledge to use their degrees and knowledge for the betterment of the humanity. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Saleemullah Khan, Principal, PACP. Mr. Ahamed Kutty, Finance Officer, Mr.Sharfuddeen P.K., AGM, Heads of various departments were present on the dais. Ms. Annet DSouza, Asst. Professor, Dept. Of Commerce, compered the programme. The event culminated with  the National Anthem, and Photo Session, and the academic procession proceeded back to the robing room.The graduation Ceremony concluded with a glee that is sure to inspire the students to accomplish greater heights.

MATRIBHASHA DIWAS

Literary Association at P.A.First Grade College celebrated Matribhasha Diwas on 21 February 2022 at E-Learning Centre, to promote linguistic, multilinguistic, and cultural diversity. Dr. Ramis. M.K., Principal, PACE, was the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he asserted the importance and need to not only learn many languages, but also to give respect and be proud of the mother tongue. Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, P.A.F.G.C., presided over the function and highlighted the importance of celebrating the International Mother Language Day.

The celebrations focused upon recognising the value of the mother tongue. Students extolled the beauty of matrabhasha through eloquent programmes like group song, skit, cultural show, outlining the culture, language and lifestyle across the world. To commemorate this wonderful occasion, the pledge was administered by the student coordinators of the Literary Association and the signature of all were put on the displayed banner to pledge their solidarity to love and respect their mother tongue. FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Internal Quality Assurance Cell at P.A.First Grade College, organised Faculty Development Programme on 15 February 2022 , at the Multipurpose Hall on Challenges in teaching & Students Formation . Dr. Chandrashekhar Shetty T, Head, Post Graduate , Department of Physics, St. Aloysius College was the Resource Person. The session included varied topics in the domain of teaching and provided an insight on the various roles, responsibilities, commitments and challenges associated, which a teacher has to overcome. He stated that Politeness, Patience, Perseverance and Assertiveness are all hallmarks of a great teacher and that teachers should rise up to these challenges, take them in their stride to make a difference and bring about a change in the society as a whole by individual growth as well as by student formation. AN INVITED TALK ON VALUE ADDITION TO AGRICULTURAL FOODS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP OPPORTUNITIES IN MICRO FOOD PROCESSING

Department of Food Technology, Food, Nutrition and Dietetics in association with Science Association , conducted an invited talk on " Value Addition to Agricultural Foods and Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Micro Food Processing" by Dr. Ahmed Abdul Fazal, Food Scientist and Retired Professor at University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, on 08 February, 2022.

The program started with a prayer invoking blessings of the almighty. Dr. Ahmed Abdul Fazal, asserted that the food industry was the only industry that would withstand the pandemic situation. India has improved a lot in its food sectors prior to what it was and has been providing a lot number of opportunities for its youth to begin with their own innovative ideas. He has developed technology to replace the old method of drying fish. He insisted on thinking beyond imagination and work on the abilities and invest more on developing a better India.

Dr.Surfraz J Hasim, Principal, P.A First Grade College, in his Presidential address, encouraged the students to invest on their ideas in order to develop new techniques in food industry that would contribute to the nation. E- NEWLETTER RELEASE- COGNIZANCE

The Literary Association at P. A. First Grade College released its first quarterly E-Newsletter “COGNIZANCE”, chronicling the events of the college from September to December 2021, at Multipurpose Hall, on 29 January 2022.
Prof. Abdul Rahiman, Former Vice- Chancellor Kannur and Calicut University and Advisor, P.A.E.T., Group of Institutions, released the newsletter and amplified both the students as well as faculty members about the importance of reading and exhorted the gathering to develop inquisitive attitude towards acquiring knowledge.
Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim acknowledged the attempt of the Editorial team in bringing out the quarterly newsletter. JOURNEY FROM CAMPUS TO CORPORATE- AN INVITED TALK

Commerce and Management Association of P. A. First Grade College organised an invited HR talk on Journey from Campus to Corporate on 27 January 2022, from 10.00 AM to 1:00 PM at Multi Purpose Hall. Mr. Sachin A.C., renowned HR Professional and Consultant was the resource person. He addressed the final year students with words of approaches for futuristic plans, career guidance and job opportunities and also apprised the students with concepts of disciplined corporate entry. He enlightened the students with basic personality skills one should have to standout in interviews and gave students ample ideas about criterias for selection of a dream company which would help for career building.

OBSERVATION OF NATIONAL VOTERS’ DAY

To mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India, National Voter's Day is celebrated in India on 25th January every year. P.A. First Grade College NSS Unit organised an online program and pledge taking ceremony on 25-01-2022 at 3:00 PM at Google Meet Platform.

Principal, Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim addressed the students about the relevance and importance of celebrating Voters day and encouraged them to participate in the electoral process. He urged the young voters to take part in the political affairs through their vote to make the democracy effective. NSS Program officer, Mr. Muhammed Musthafa, highlighted the importance of Right to Vote as an important Fundamental Right. He said One Person, One Vote is a fundamental right and one must completely use it because it is our vote which is going to make a lot of difference. He urged students not to get influenced by a candidate’s caste, creed, race, religion, gender, etc. and encouraged them to exercise their right to vote. He then threw light on how voting creates a change in the country.

NSS volunteer, Mr. Abdul Basith, administered the voters’ pledge. All staff members and students pledged to uphold the democratic traditions of the country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections. Ms. Ayshath Hanuna welcomed the participants. Mr. Shahid proposed a vote of thanks.The program was hosted by Ms. Aleema Nabeela.

An invited talk on “Outcome Based Education System & BTL”

An invited talk on “Outcome Based Education System & BTL” was held at P A First Grade College for all the teaching staff, on 4th Jan 2022. Dr Krishnaprasad N, Prof & Head, Dept. of Biotechnology, P.A. College of Engineering was the resource person.

Dr Krishnaprasad stressed on the importance of ASK (Attitude, Knowledge & Skill) and Blooms Taxonomy Levels its importance in assessment.

Commerce and Management Association of P. A. First Grade College organised an invited talk on Live Stock Market on 16th December 2021, from 9:30 AM at Multi Purpose Hall. SPECTACULAR VALEDICTORY FUNCTION BRINGS MANGALORE UNIVERSITY INTER-COLLEGIATE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 2021 TO A FITTING CLOSE!

P. A. First Grade College organised Mangalore University (Mangalore Zone) Inter-collegiate Football Tournament from 13 December to 15 December 2021 at P.A Campus ground and Mangalore University play ground. The three days witnessed spectacular display of confidence, hardwork, leadership and competition.The last day was a vibrant culmination of the magnificent tournament. St.Aloysious College, Mangalore, emerged as the Champions of the tournament and St. Philomena College, Puttur, as the Runner- up. The Valedictory Function of the football tournament took place on 15 December 2021 at Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri at 2:00pm. Ms. Aysha Bashariya Monacco, Asst.Professor, Dept.of BCA, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Gerald Santhosh D'Souza, Director, Dept. of Physical Education, Mangalore University, emphasised on the impermanence of winning and losing. INAUGURAL CEREMONY : INTER-COLLEGIATE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

P. A. First Grade College is organising Mangalore University Inter-collegiate football tournament from 13 December to 15 December 2021 at P.A Campus ground and Mangalore University play ground. Around 36 teams registered for this tournament.The inaugural ceremony started with great gaiety on 13 December 2021 at 11.30 am at P.A.Campus playground. The inaugural ceremony began with the formal procedure seeking the blessings of the almighty. Mr.Iqbal, Physical Director , P.A.E.T., formally welcomed the dignitaries. Dr. Gerald Santhosh D'Souza, Director, Dept. of Physical Education, Mangalore University, in his inaugural oration, stimulated the participants on the benefits of Sports in maintaining balanced health and fitness. The three day tournament will continue till Wednesday, with the hope that a well begun event will round off successfully.The Champions of the tournament would be venerated with B.Sadananda and Vaman memorial trophy .

EQUALITY,REDUCING INEQUALITIES,ADVANCING HUMAN RIGHTS

International Human rights day was observed at P.A. First Grade College, Mangalore, under the aegis of NSS unit on 10th December 2021 at E- learning centre, PAET. Dr. Dayanand Naik, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Mangalore University, was the chief guest . In his address, he urged the NSS volunteers to read the  Constitution of India and create a legal awareness among the people in the society. He highlighted many legal aspects and spoke about UAPA act. He explained the importance of Human rights and how students can take positive action against the violation of human rights. Dr.Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, P.A First Grade College, in his presidential address encouraged students to read the Constitution of India and educated students on their human rights and how they can protect their freedom. He then felicitated Prof. Dayanand Naik as a token of gratitude. NSS program officer,  Mr. Muhammed  Musthafa,   welcomed the  gathering. Dr. Sayyad Ameen, Mr. Abdul Khader, HoD Commerce Ms. Preeti Flavia Pereira, NAAC Coordinator Ms. Vanishree, IQAC Coordinator Ms. Sharvana and Student Welfare officer Ms. Deepti Udyavar were present on the occasion. “ART IS A LINE AROUND YOUR THOUGHTS”- PAINTING COMPETITION

The Literary Association and the NSS unit at P.A.First Grade College organised a Painting Competition on account of National Pollution Control Day on 02 December, 2021 at the Drawing Area on the second floor.The competition was orgnised to bring out the creative expression, artistic skills of the students and also to gauge their awareness quotient. The aim of this competition was not merely to see the creative aspect but also to trigger the thought process of the students towards these issues.Competitions of this sort, increase the observational skills, response to thoughts, awareness and concern of the students towards these issues.The college always encourages students participation in competitions for their holistic development.The judge of the event was Mr.Abdul Jaleel, Asst. Professor, Dept. Of Commerce and the decision regarding the winners was made on the basis of criterias like- Relevance to the theme, Creativity, Neatness and Overall presentation. Ms. Fathimath Hasna, I year BCA scored first and Ms. Ayshath Safha, I year BBA(Aviation) scored second place in the competition. The winners will be awarded with the certificates as well as prizes.

NATURE CLUB -LOGO RELEASE

The Nature Club at P. A. First Grade College organised "Logo Launch - Green Aura" on account of National Pollution Control Day on 02 December 2021 at G-27 meeting hall. The principal, Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, Dr. Sayyed Ameen, Dean(Student Affairs) P.A.E.T., Mr. Iqbal, Campus Manager P.A.E.T., HoD’s, SWO, NSS Programme officer, Mr. Ibrahim, Physical Director, Nature club coordinators Ms.Najla Mariyam, Ms.Ambili, Ms.Ashwini and student members were present on this occasion. Dr.Surfraz J.Hasim, the Principal, launched the Green Aura Logo and motivated the students to value environment and to plan for programmes and events which would motivate the community in general and the students in particular. Dr. Sayyed Ameen released the video presentation of the club and stressed on the importance of our environment and its conservation. The club expressed its participation in sustaining a hygienic and healthy campus. Ms.Aleema Nabeela, II year FND, compered the programme.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

The Faculty Development Programme on “Teaching is an Art” was organised on August 30, 2021 and September 1, 2021, (Post - lunch) at Multi-Purpose Hall, PACE Campus. Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, P. A. First Grade College, initiated the programme and being the resource person, addressed the faculty members on how to focus and equip various strategies, to disseminate knowledge to the students effectively.

The programme emphasized on the ways to cater diverse group of students with different learning styles and preferences in the classroom with the power of emotional intelligence. He reiterated the relevance of positive attitude that would bring about immense transformation by focusing on the good in any given situation and the ways to implement the same with the students. He then laid stress on the importance of meditation which is the perfect way to align the mind. The presentation also focused on time management, which is the prime factor and has a great value to utilize in this competitive world.

The programme involved various activities, video clips that widened the faculties to enhance the support in their roles, aiming for an energetic academic life and culture. The sessions received a very positive feedback and as a follow-up, the next session is proposed in the month of October.

TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATION

P. A. First Grade College, Mangaluru celebrated Teachers Day on September 6, 2021 at EduSat Hall in the Campus. Dr. Ramis M. K., Principal, P. A. College of Engineering, elucidated the teachers their responsibilities in moulding the generations. Addressing the gathering Dr. Saleemullah Khan, Principal, P. A. College of Pharmacy advised the teachers to give foremost attention in imparting knowledge to the students. Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, P.A. First Grade College, briefed the role of teachers to open students’ minds to ideas, knowledge and dream. Principals’ of sister institutions, Dean (SA), Vice Principals, AGM – P.A.E.T. Group of Institutions, HoDs, faculty members were present on the occasion.

The programme served as a platform to the teachers in sharing their teaching experiences and it aimed at respecting the teachers for their significant work. Ms. Ibthisaan Banu, Dept. of Science welcomed the dignitaries. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Vanishree Y. Dept. of Commerce. Ms. Yashaswini, Dept. of Commerce compeered the programme.

AZADI KA AMRUTH MAHOTSAV

As per the notifications issued by the Ministry of Education, all the educational institutions have been advised to celebrate ‘Azadi Ka Amruth Mahotsav’ by organizing various events and related activities on the theme 75 years of India’s Independence ‘Azadi Ka Amruth Mahotsav’ in their respective colleges.

P. A. First Grade College, affiliated to Mangalore University celebrated ‘Azadi Ka Amruth Mahotsav, the 75 years of India’s Independence under the guidance of the Principal, Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim on September 7, 2021 at Edu Sat hall in the Campus. The chief Guest, Mr. Rudresh who served in the Indian Army, addressed the gathering and exhorted the students to join the Army to serve the nation and shared his own experiences in the field. Mr. Muhammad Musthafa, Lecturer in Political Science highlighted the supreme sacrifice of the great martys who gave their lives for the sake of freedom and the necessity to preserve it. Patriotic songs, writings, speech on the theme of patriotism, about freedom fighters who gave their lives and made great sacrifices and such other related activities were conducted in different languages.

The Principal, Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim in his Presidential address advised the students to play proactive roles in building the nation through cohesive efforts. The celebration encouraged the students to participate and commemorate the value and spirit of the freedom fighters who fought for the independence

Ms.Sharvana, Dept. of English hosted the programme. Ms. Preethi Flavia Periera, Head -Dept. of Commerce delivered the welcome address and Ms. Murial Melony Misquith, Head- Dept. of Science proposed a vote of thanks.

TOBACCO FREE INSTITUTION – AN AWARENESS PROGRAMME

An awareness programme on creating tobacco free institution was organised by the NSS unit of P.A.F.G.C., on 23 September 2021 at PAFGC campus. Principal, Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim addressed the gathering and urged the people to abandon tobacco and highlighted the various effects of tobacco on human beings. NSS programme officer Mr. Muhammed Musthafa in his address advised that tobacco is injurious to health, it will spoil the human being’s life and urged the people to create a tobacco free society. The volunteers of NSS unit held the poster which carried a message to create tobacco free society and abandon tobacco. The NSS volunteers created awareness among the people about the various effects of tobacco on human beings by holding posters. The volunteers pledged for the creation of Tobacco Free Society. Heads of Science and Commerce department and other faculty members were present in the programme.

FAREWELL PROGRAMME

The Farewell function ‘Tot ziens’, – memories to begin a new journey for the batch of 2018-21 was held on 25th October 2021 at PACE auditorium. The chief guest for the programme was Mr. Faizal, Head – Centre for Professional and Organizational Development, PACE.

The programme commenced at 10 A.M with the prayer by Abbas Ibrahim Mubaris, III BBA. This was followed by the Welcome speech by Ms. Sharvana, HoD- Languages. The programme continued with the address by the chief guest, Mr. Faizal who spoke encouraging words of wisdom for the final year students and also highlighted the importance of communication skills for the employability. Dr. Krishna Prasad, HoD- Biotechnology, PACE joined the programme and addressed the students with his inspiring words. He encouraged the students that past must always be considered as a lesson with optimistic view for looking ahead. He blessed the students to get success in their life. Ms. Murial Misquith, HoD- Science shared her message with the students and wished good luck for their future. Ms. Preethi Flavia Pereira, HoD- Commerce addressed the students and shared her experience with the students. Few faculty members as well as students from the department of Science and Commerce shared their experiences about their journey at P.A.F.G.C. campus. Mr.Sharfuddeen, AGM, P.A.E.T. Group of Institutions graced the occasion by his presence. The programme continued with the distribution of certificates by the guests to the prize winners of various activities conducted by the college.

The presidential remarks was given by Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, P. A. First Grade College, wherein he motivated the students by highlighting the importance of goal setting in life. The photo session was held with the outgoing students. Finally the programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms. Annet Dsouza, Department of Commerce. ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

P.A First Grade College, Nadupadavu, Mangaluru conducted an Orientation Programme for the freshers on, 15 November 2021, Monday. The programme started with a prayer invoking blessings of the almighty.

Dr. Manjunatha Pattabi, Dean, faculty of Science and Technology, Mangaluru University, was the chief guest who inspired the students to work hard to obtain knowledge. He set a formula ‘KAPI’ –which stands for Knowledge, Attitude, Punctuality and Integrity which has to be inculcated by students. He insisted parents to have a track on their wards for their betterment.

Dr. Saleemullah Khan, Principal, P.A College of Pharmacy, reflected on the importance of current education system. He also stressed on being responsible to oneself, to embrace the differences and alternative thinking. Prof. K.P. Soofie, Principal, P.A College of Polytechnic, added that the university is committed to provide a safe, secure and excellent research oriented academic ambience. He advised students to use English as the medium of communication throughout their academics and to be more sincere and obedient in their work. Prof. Sajeesh Regunathan, Principal, P.A Institute of Physiotherapy, motivated students on leadership qualities and to set goals to achieve a successful life.

Amar Mascaranas, Logistics and Supply chain expert, gave a glimpse about his knowledge of experience and wise of wisdom. Ms. Najla Mariyam, Assistant Professor, Department of Language, guided students and parents with college rules and regulations.

INDUCTION PROGRAMME

Induction programme conducted for first years from 16th November 2021 after the Orientation programme was a various knowledge oriented programme where in the students were divided into equal numbers into two groups- Group A and Group B and were directed to two different venues, E- learning centre (Edusat hall) and The Multipurpose hall depending on their time table which was made for the induction programme. On the first day, the students were guided to the respective venues by the faculty members. The sessions were conducted by different resource persons from over different institutions of P.A College and also by the senior faculty members of the P.A First Grade College.

Mr. Mohammed Faizal N, Head -Centre for Professional and Organisational Development PACE, dealt with Group Dynamics and Cross Culture which helped our students to gain profuse knowledge on maintaining good relations among different people and also on the maintainance of behaviour in the group, as students from various background mingle and this would help them in a very good way . Prof. Chandana B.R, Asst. Professor, Electronics and Communication Engineering, insighted on the values and ethics which the students should maintain throughout their lives and the ways of maintaining it along with its benefits by elaborating on her topic Universal Human Values. Prof. Sajeesh Regunathan, Principal, P.A. College of Physiotherapy, in his session on Posture and Good Health, made sure that the students gained knowledge on their physique, the problems related to their health and also conducted activities that helped students to gain more knowledge in shaping the good posture and well being . Dr Sayyed Ameen Ahamed, Dean, Student affairs, P.A.E.T. Group of Institutions, dealt with the topic on “Smart Education”-journey towards successful career. It clearly gave the students an idea to lead towards the successful journey, the hidden concepts to success, and the need of understanding the smart education to ease stressful lives.

Dr Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, P.A. First Grade College helped the students in knowing their subconscious mind, understanding their own mind and leading the positive life with his topic on Explore your Mind. Mr. Iqbal and Mr. Ibrahim M, Physical Director and Coach took up different sessions on the Physical Fitness and enlightened our students on the benefits of staying fit and healthy and also traced few students who are willing to participate in various upcoming events. Ms. Preethi Flavia Pereira, HoD of Commerce and Management, made sure that all the information on the mentoring was provided to the students and all the rules and the regulations pertaining to the college was shared. Ms .Murial Melony Misquith, HoD of Science who spoke on the topic of Food For Health and insighted on the daily need of food in our life, its importance, the requirement, the nutrients gained and role of food in maintaining the good health. Ms. Chaitra, HoD of Computer Application spoke on the topic - Technology’s impact on our lives and gave the importance, role and need of technology in our day to day life and how does it show its impact in one’s life. Ms Sharvana, HoD of Languages, in her session on Commom Errors in English, helped the students in rectifying the basic errors that occurred during communication and also on the errors while writing. Ms Vanishree, Assistant Professor, Commerce and Management, dealt with the topic of Entrepreneurship which gave a clear idea to the students on certain aspects of starting up of the companies, business and leading to be an entrepreneur. Ms. Deepthi Udyawar, Assistant Professor Commerce and Management, elaborated on basic etiquettes that has to be given to each and every student as they move on from one level of education to another level helping to cope with their peers and maintaining good relations with all the faculty members.

All the sessions carried out throughout the induction programme served to be the most beneficial for the students to deal with the new beginning of their college life. On Friday, 19th November 2021, the induction programme was concluded with the Valedictory Programme. Mr. Abdullah Ibrahim, Executive Director, P.A.E.T. The master of ceremony was Ms Ramya Anne, Assistant Professor, Department of English. Ms Zainab Ridha, III FT proposed the vote of thanks.

P.A First Grade College together with Lions and Leo Club Mangaluru, conducted Students Development Programme for the first year students on 23 November 2021, Tuesday. The programme started with a prayer invoking blessings of the almighty. 

Dr. Surfraz J. Hasim, Principal, P.A First Grade College, Nadupadavu, Mangaluru, welcomed the members of Lion and Leo club and also welcomed the gathering. He motivated the students on their journey of education and the ways to plan to lead a victorious career. Lion Satish Rai, President of the Lions Club, Mangaluru, gave a brief account on Lions Club and its foundation. He also inspired the students to work hard to shape their future and addressed about the various programmes they conducted.

Ms Murial Misquith, HoD- Science, cordially introduced the Resource Person, Prof. Ronald Pinto, Director- Institute of Individual Development, Mangaluru. He spoke about the Importance of Academic Excellence and Employability Skills. He elaborated on the stages of learning that will help to enhance the ability to have higher aims in life and also with basic effective communication, academic excellence and positive attitude one can achieve perfect employability skills.

Ms.Annet Dsouza, Assistant professor, Department of Commerce and Management, welcomed Lion Denis Rodrigues, Treasurer of the Lions Club. He enlightened students on Career Guidance and spoke about the lack of success in career, the reason being lack of interest in the field, potential and personality. He inspired students to follow their dream and goals to have a sustainable career. Prof. Ronald Pinto clarified the queries of the students and also advised them on how to persuade their career. The members of the Lions and Leo club and the Resource Person were felicitated and were presented with the token of appreciation.

PA First Grade College is organizing an online invited talk – “FOOD SAFETY AND GOOD DIETETIC PRACTICE” on Tuesday, 8th June 2021, 3.00 to 4.00 pm. The resource person is Prof. Radhika Hedaoo, Assistance Professor, Symbiosis International University, Pune.

Prof. Radhika Hedaoo is a Certified Diabetes Educator recognized by DMDEA and International Diabetes Federation (IDF). She is also a certified Nutrigenomics counselor from Genesupport. She has worked in VLCC slimming industry as a dietitian and as a panel dietitian for Deendayal memorial hospital and Apollo Clinic Pune where she was responsible for diet counseling IPD and OPD patients and post operative patients.

GRADUATION CEREMONY

P. A. First Grade College, Mangalore, affiliated to Mangalore University, one of the premier institutions of the P. A. Educational Trust held their graduation ceremony on Saturday 30 Jan. 2021 from 2.00-3.00 p.m. at the PACE Auditorium at their Campus at Nadupadavu. All the B.Sc. Food Technology and Food Nutrition and Dietetics were present to receive their graduation degree officially. Prof P. L. Dharma, the Registrar (Eval), Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri, was the chief guest for the day. He motivated the students toward choosing a bright career for themselves. The Chairman, PACE group, Dr. P. A. Ibrahim Haji remarked he was extremely proud of the young graduates. The Executive Director, P. A. Educational Trust Institutions welcomed everyone, congratulated the students on their proud achievement, and discussed the growth of the college. Dr. Meena J. Panikker, Principal – P. A. First Grade College administered oath to the students and shared her insight about academics.
